"AGING IN PLACE: STL Village and the New Face of Aging"

With 10,000 people a day turning 65, we are seeking to redefine a longer, healthier older adulthood. Living at home - in community - looks better than ever, with the support of organizations like STL Village.

The Village Movement started with Beacon Hill Village in Boston over 15 years ago, and today there are over 200 open Villages and more than 150 in development in 45 states and the District of Columbia. STL Village is a not-for-profit, member-driven community network that helps people 50+ age in their own homes with 24-7 phone/click access to a full range of activities and support services. Village to Village Network and the Village Movement will not only impact Villages and their members, but the lives of countless families, caregivers and members of the broader community they serve.

Sally Nikolajevich has been part of STL Village since it’s inception five years ago, serving on the Exploratory Committee and then as Board co-Chair. Her involvement with STL Village is the culmination of a long-held passion for improving the lives of the elderly that began with her own experience caring for her aging parents. In addition to her work with the Village, Sally is on the Forest Park Advisory Board, having served as president for the past two years.

Sally retired from the work force in 2016, after a 40-year career in the design field: Graphic and exhibit design, and in later years, landscape design. The highlight of her career was being part of a team that created permanent, interpretive exhibits for clients including The Missouri Botanical Garden, John Deere, the Jack Daniel Distillery, the Seattle Aquarium, and the US Secret Service.

Sally and her husband, George, are long-time City residents, having lived in the CWE for the past 38 years.
