Forum gathered at the Ritz-Carlton on Friday, April 27, to honor Mayor Lyda Krewson with this year’s Trailblazer Award. Although best known now for being elected the City of St. Louis’s first female mayor in 2017, her accomplishments began far earlier. Lyda previously served as an effective City Alderman for 20 years, and as Chief Financial Officer of PGAV, an international design and planning firm.

Kim Walker, St. Louis Forum’s Immediate Past President and board liaison to the Trailblazer Selection Committee, was thrilled to announce Lyda's selection for the award.

"Lyda Krewson exemplifies the leadership, achievement and grit that the Trailblazer Award and the members of the St. Louis Forum represent, and in so doing, she has elevated the image of all women in our community,” Kim said.

After a rousing introduction from 2016’s Forum Trailblazer, Patricia Rice, Lyda offered a few words of wisdom regarding the traits that helped her achieve success:

  • Optimism — Lyda’s optimism goes beyond finding the good in all situations; she recommends turning every bad situation into a learning lesson or a challenge that can be solved using innovative thinking.
  • Willingness to fail — Without failure, Lyda believes she wouldn’t be where she is today. She unsuccessfully ran for a position on the school board years ago. That loss taught her the importance of humility and resiliency, vital characteristics today in her role as mayor.
  • Fearlessness when tackling tough problems — Lyda has always been someone who stood up for what she believed in, whether hers was a popular opinion or not. When she lobbied for common-sense gun laws, she faced retaliation from the Missouri State legislation. Lyda didn’t back down; instead, she implemented a gun buyback program to “clean up St. Louis” and help reduce crime in our city.

Thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed a lovely afternoon celebrating our current and past Trailblazers.
