October 25 at the St. Louis Club, Kathy Bernard of WiserU shared tricks to maximize your perceived professional value through LinkedIn. Four tips include: 1) How to connect to others without searching for their name (see More); 2) Maximizing your headline to make people want to read more; 3) Packing in and alphabetizing your skills in your summary so searchers can find you easily; 4) Adding a unique cover banner to make your profile stand out from others in the sea of blue.

Kathy began Friday’s session with: “Please take out your phones, inviting us to try out a cool, new LinkedIn feature: from the LinkedIn mobile platform, select the people icon > turn on “find nearby contacts” > and voila! The Bluetooth-enabled feature allows you to connect with people who are also “searching for nearby contacts,” without having to search for a name. Quickly, members added each other on LinkedIn, no name search required and instantly bolstered their LinkedIn profiles!

To maximize your headline—you have 120 characters; use them. Also, the “About” section allows for 2000 characters. Kathy recommends maximizing the first 300 characters—to give people a reason to click “see more.”
