Membership Nomination Procedure

Membership shall be held by individuals who support the purposes of the St. Louis Forum and who have distinguished themselves through recognizable achievements. Membership is by invitation only and strives to maintain a balanced representation of professional people.

Prospective members shall be considered according to the following criteria:

  1. Position within the company or organization
  2. Professional experience
  3. Job responsibilities
  4. Community, charitable, political and religious leadership roles

The nominating procedure for membership is as follows:

  1. A member, who knows the prospective member, acts as sponsor. It is best, though not necessary, to invite the prospective member to attend an open meeting. The member completes the nomination form, if possible, without telling the nominee that she is being nominated. Under no circumstances can the member assure the nominee that she will be accepted, much less in that nomination cycle.
  2. The Membership Committee reviews nominations and recommends persons who then are proposed to the Board. It has the right to limit the number of members from one organization and the numbers of persons in any specific profession in order to have a wide representation of members in the Forum. To achieve that diversity it may put aside qualified nominees for a year or more.
  3. The Board approves or rejects the recommendation of the Membership Committee.
  4. The prospective member then receives a letter inviting her to membership, along with an application form to complete, with a copy of the letter going to the sponsor.
  5. If not approved at any step of the process, the sponsor is notified by the Membership Committee.
